For me, the book Anthem was life changing.

I think he means serious in relation to general clan business.

| Not too big of a Rand fan. If it weren't for some of her retarded radical ideas she puts into each of her books, I might consider her a great author. I really liked how she wrote Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead but as the story progressed and she unveiled her ideologies and philosophies I began to hate her more and more. I can't bear someone telling me that the working class is evil and the upper wealthy class deserves their money and gap from the poor, or that the only moral and well functioning government is a laissez faire one...
I get the feeling, with Anthem, that despite her experience with the Russian Revolution, she has no idea of what the ideologies of Marxism or communism or socialism hope to achieve. I think you need to separate the aims of the ideology from peoples actions. After all, people on the other side of the political spectrum are just as liable to be dickheads. My big issue with Anthem is that she appeals to such an illogical extreme to make her point seem good.
Not a bad writer at all, but I just can't stand the philosophies, especially when its reproduced in all of her books.

| Having not read the books, I cannot comment on Rand's writing style. But I agree with what you say, futureal. It's hypocritical to ever justify that the wealth of the upper classes is deserved. It exists solely because the lower class must remain so in order to feed this wealth. | |
